In Focus: Benzema can replace goals at Arsenal should Sanchez leave

As reported by Diario Gol, Arsenal could make a dramatic last-minute offer to sign Karim Benzema this summer.

What’s the story?

Heading into the last week of what has already been a dramatic transfer window, it seems there could be plenty of drama ahead and Arsenal could be a part of it.

Diario Gol report that if the Gunners end up losing Alexis Sanchez, whose contract situation at the club is still not resolved, they could make a huge move for Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema.

The report reckons Wenger sees Benzema as the man to fill Sanchez’s boots.

Born goalscorer

Starting his 9th season at Real Madrid, Benzema has scored an impressive 181 goals in all competitions for the Spanish giants, proving to be one of the most consistent and reliable goalscorers in European football at the elite level.

That kind of reliability would of course go down a treat at the Emirates, especially if Sanchez ends up leaving. At 30 years of age, Benzema is at the peak of his powers and would almost certainly be a hit in the English Premier League.

His experience of winning trophies could be vital for the Gunners too, having won 21 major honours with Lyon and Madrid throughout his career. Could he give Arsenal the edge they need to finally deliver the meaningful silverware fans crave?
