As reported by CalcioMercato.com, Chelsea are interested in a summer move for Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia.

What's the story?

With the Premier League title almost in their grasp, Antonio Conte is already making plans to bolster his squad ahead of new challenges and competitions next season, most notably the UEFA Champions League.

To that end, CalcioMercato.com report he's targeting a midfielder enforcer in the form of Argentinian midfielder Lucas Biglia, currently plying his trade in Serie A with Lazio.

With the 31 year old entering the final year of his contract, Conte is said to be hopeful of landing his man despite new contract negotiations set to take place between the player and his employer.

What would he offer?

Lucas Biglia offers vast experience in the game. At 31 years old he has over 400 professional appearances for Anderlecht and Lazio, complementing almost 50 caps for an elite international side in Argentina.

If Chelsea are going to be serious about fighting on four fronts next season, they need to assemble a squad of depth as well as quality.

Biglia also has over 60 appearances in European competition, so clearly wouldn't be phased by UEFA Champions League action either.

He could add real competition in the defensive midfield positions at Stamford Bridge and even if not a regular starter would be a more than capable back-up to the likes of N'Golo Kante.
