West Ham United are keeping tabs on Bologna pair Adam Masina and Simone Verdi, according to Tuttomercato.

What's the word?

While the summer transfer window may be closed, there has not much time for a breather as clubs begin to strategise potential January activity.

Tuttomercato claim that the Hammers sent scouts to watch Masina and Verdi play in Bologna's 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Tuesday.

The East London outfit had a busy summer, recruiting Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, but they are still believed to be keen on strengthening the squad.

How do Masina and Verdi play?

Masina, 23, occupies the left-back role and has shown in Serie A that he possesses strong qualities in attack and defence.

The Italy Under-21 international has quick feet for charging runs down the side of the pitch, but he is also powerful.

He is comfortable taking on players, but can show strength when trying to stop opponents from getting past him.

As for Verdi, the 25-year-old can play either in a forward role, as a right-sided midfielder or in the centre of the park.

This season, the Italian has made five league appearances and has contributed with a goal and an assist so far in the campaign.

The versatile player can pick out a pass and is also a decent free-kick taker that could potentially bring some flair to the West Ham side.
