According to reports in The Mirror, Newcastle United, Everton and Southampton are battling for the summer signing of £13m-rated Montpellier winger Ryan Boudebouz.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Algerian attacker has enjoyed an impressive campaign for the Ligue 1 outfit and is now attracting admiring glances from a number of clubs including the Premier League trio, Lazio and Lyon.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is keen to significantly strengthen his squad in order to avoid a relegation battle next season following his side’s promotion from the Championship, while Everton and Southampton are both looking to improve in wide areas in order to push on next term.

How good has Boudebouz been this season?

Despite Montpellier only recently securing their Ligue 1 status for another season having spent the majority of the campaign fighting a relegation battle, the 27-year-old has been one of their standout players.

The Algerian wide man has scored 11 goals and provided a further nine assists, while has shown his creative ability by making more than 100 key passes for teammates.

Would he be a good addition for the trio?

He certainly would be, yes.

Newcastle are going to need more quality in their squad if they are going to enjoy a positive return to the Premier League, and they need players that have the ability to unlock opposition defences.

Of course, fans may have their reservations at yet another addition from France, but he does seem to have the qualities needed to be a success in England.

Meanwhile, Southampton need attacking reinforcements after scoring just 17 goals in 17 Premier League home matches this term, while Ronald Koeman will be looking to boost the strength in depth of his team with Europa League football to look forward to.

What’s the verdict, then?

Considering his stats and his price tag, one of the trio of Premier League teams could be getting a bargain if they sign Boudebouz this summer, and he would be a particularly good addition for Newcastle and Southampton.
