As reported by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Celtic are chasing a highly-rated right-back who could be a long-term replacement for Swedish star Mikael Lustig.

What's the story?

After completing the signing of Jonny Hayes from Aberdeen last week, the Hoops will undoubtedly be attempting to add more names to the squad this summer as they look to maintain their domestic success and become a force in the UEFA Champions League.

One man they're interested in is Netherlands international Joshua Brenet of PSV Eindhoven. That's according to De Telegraaf who say the Hoops are one of six clubs interested in signing him this summer.

Rated at £3.4m on Transfermarkt, he would certainly appear to be within reach resource wise of the Glasgow side, however the Dutch paper suggest competition could come from the likes of Serie A side Fiorentina and the English Premier League's Watford.

Who is he?

Brenet is a 23-year-old right-back who has emerged as one of the brightest Dutch prospects in the position. He's made over 100 appearances for PSV, helping them win Eredivisie in 2014/15 and 2015/16.

His form has been sufficient enough that he's received international caps for the Netherlands, making his debut against Belgium in 2016.

With 23 European appearances to his name also, it's clear he's of the quality to be a success in the Scottish Premiership. He featured in the UEFA Champions League on four occasions last season.

With Mikael Lustig now 30 years old, the Hoops need to start thinking about a seamless long-term transition between the Swedish international and a successor and bringing in Brenet as competition initially seems like a great step forward in that regard.

With the versatility to also play on the left hand side of the defence with no dip in performance, he can also provide cover for the likes of Kieran Tierney.

Given his pedigree, this is likely a signing that would excited Hoops fans, the kind of player that can really help turn them into a European force next term.
