According to the Daily Star, Celtic could be set to move for Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke this summer.
After contract talks with Chelsea stalled earlier this year, Blues manager Antonio Conte confirmed to the press in February that Solanke would likely leave the club in the summer.
A number of clubs have reportedly expressed their interest in the 19-year-old striker, including Liverpool and German side RB Leipzig. However, having worked with Solanke in his time coaching at Chelsea, it seems that Brendan Rodgers and Celtic could also be interested in taking the young English star north of the border.
Solanke’s market value currently stands at just £1.7m, according to transfermarkt.com.
The Celtic boss mentioned how fond he was of the young star’s talents in a recent press conference: “Dominic is a fantastic talent. I only speak on him because I know the player. He obviously deems that his future lies elsewhere (other than at Chelsea)”.
Unfortunately, the 19-year-old has not featured once for Chelsea during their current campaign. Clearly not impressing current manager Antonio Conte, Solanke has been forced to settle for games in the reserve squad, where he has put in some decent performances.
Powerful, fast and confident, if Dominic Solanke were to find the form that excited so many Chelsea fans 18 months ago, the young Englishman could be an unstoppable force in the Scottish game.
If Brendan Rodgers managers to purchase Solanke and keep Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele at the club, fans at Celtic Park could be in for a phenomenal season, with a front line rivalling that of clubs south of the border.
