According to reports in The Sun, Chelsea are eyeing a potential summer move for promising Everton midfielder Tom Davies.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Sun says that Blues boss Antonio Conte still wants to add four more players to his squad before the summer transfer window closes despite already bringing Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger, Willy Caballero and Tiemoue Bakayoko to the club this summer.

While The Sun suggests that Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and Inter Milan winger Antonio Candreva are the Italian manager’s top targets, he is also credited with an interest in Davies, who enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season with the Toffees last time out.

How well did Davies do?

He did very well.

The 19-year-old midfielder obviously impressed manager Ronald Koeman and ended the campaign having made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing a further three assists.

The England Under-19 international also showed his versatility by featuring in a number of positions in the side, and although central midfield seems to be his preferred spot he also played in defensive, attacking and left midfield roles.

Davies showed how comfortable he is in possession of the ball with a passing accuracy of 82% in 24 Premier League outings, while he also showed his energy and ability to take opponents on by successfully completing 17 take-ons.

Would he be a good signing for Chelsea?

He certainly would be, and would provide competition for the likes of Bakayoko and N'Golo Kante in the middle of the park.

The 19-year-old has already become an integral member of the Everton side – although his place in the team could be threatened following the arrivals of the likes of Davy Klaassen and Wayne Rooney this summer – and shown great potential to go on and have a brilliant career.

Would Everton want to lose him?

They certainly wouldn’t.

While they have spent lots of money in the transfer market this summer, the Merseyside outfit still want to give youth players a chance and as one of their own, they certainly will have no intentions of losing Davies – unless it is for a huge fee.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, while it would be no surprise if Chelsea were interested in Davies, it looks almost impossible that they would be able to prise him away from Everton this summer because of how highly he is regarded at Goodison Park.
