In Focus: Chelsea right to offer Batshuayi to Monaco in potential Bakayoko deal

According to reports in The Telegraph, Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer striker Michy Batshuayi in a potential deal to sign £43m-rated Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Blues boss Antonio Conte is keen to bring in a new central midfielder this summer to compete alongside the likes of N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas in what will be a more heavily congested fixture list, and the 22-year-old is believed to be one of his top targets.

However, Conte could face competition from Manchester United and Jose Mourinho for the Frenchman, and given the Ligue 1 champions Batshuayi could swing the deal in their favour.

Would Monaco be willing to accept that deal?

While the French outfit will want to keep all of their star players as they look to defend their title next season and again go far in the Champions League, there may be an acceptance that they will lose a couple this season.

The fact that they could get Batshuayi, who was prolific for Marseille before his move to Stamford Bridge last summer, as part of the deal may tempt them to do business with the Blues.

Would the Belgian be keen on leaving?

He probably would be, yes.

The 23-year-old has barely featured for Chelsea in the Premier League this season despite scoring the goal that won them the title against West Bromwich Albion last week.

In fact, he only made his first top flight start for the Blues in the thrilling 4-3 win against Watford on Monday night, and the chance to get regular football for a team in the Champions League may appeal to him.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, Conte appears desperate to sign Bakayoko this summer if rumours are to be believed and if they can steal a march on other interested teams by offering Batshuayi to Monaco as part of the deal, then that is what the Italian boss must do.
