As reported by The Mirror, Chelsea are considering making a move for Manchester United target Ivan Perisic this summer.
After the Blues’ shock defeat to Burnley at the weekend, there are signs that Chelsea may need some more fresh blood if they are to maintain last season’s level of success.
As well as seeking depth to his already elite squad, it seems that manager Antonio Conte is also looking to deliver a direct blow to one of his title rivals.
The Mirror say that Man United are preparing a fresh approach for £48m-rated Inter Milan man Ivan Perisic, but Chelsea are also considering rivalling them for his signature.
Signing one of United’s long-term targets would deliver a significant blow to Jose Mourinho’s attempts to build a successful side at Old Trafford.
Perisic of course will be fresh in Conte’s mind after the winger scored against the Blues in a pre-season friendly.
There’s no doubting that Perisic is an elite left-sided midfielder. Last season he scored 11 goals and created nine assists across the campaign, a creativity and goal threat that would go down a treat at in the Premier League.
Perisic excels at international level too, scoring five goals in his last 13 appearances for Croatia.
At 28 years of age he may not have long-term upside but he is a player in his prime that would certainly add significant talent and depth to both the Chelsea and Manchester United attack.
With both clubs looking to compete domestically and in Europe this season, that depth could be crucial in determining who lifts the big trophies come the end of the campaign.
