According to the Le 10 Sport, Manchester United and Manchester City are set to battle it out for Monaco playmaker Bernardo Silva.
At just 22, Bernardo Silva has become one of the hottest properties in Europe, especially after the phenomenal season that Monaco are having. With the French club set for domestic glory and having dumped both Man City and Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League, many of their players are in for a summer of transfer interest.
Reports have suggested that Real Madrid, Barcelona and both Manchester clubs have expressed an interest in Silva. However, it is now rumoured that both Spanish giants have backed out of the deal, leaving City and United to fight for the services of the Portuguese international.
Able to play as a winger or as a number ten behind the striker, Bernardo Silva would certainly add a touch of flair to the Old Trafford pitch. However, the 22-year-old plays in a similar style and role to that of Henrikh Mkitaryan, who has almsot established himself at United.
While there would certainly be some fierce competition, Silva could flourish extremely well under the guidance of compatriot Jose Mourinho.
This is a difficult one to answer. Bernardo Silva would certainly fit into Pep Guardiola’s style of play and could truly flourish with the attacking talent that Manchester City have on their books. However, he has drawn a number of comparisons with namesake and potential teammate David Silva, which could mean a battle between the two of them for one starting place.
Nonetheless, there is no one better to learn your trade from, than a man who you have been favourably compared to in the past.
