As reported by L'Equipe, Celtic have made a big summer move for one of French football's top defensive prospects.

What's the story?

The Hoops confirmed the signing of Jonny Hayes recently but, as expected, that's not going to be the only business they do in the summer transfer window.

L'Equipe reckon they're already busy working on another target, having made a massive £4.8m bid for Lens' Jean-Kevin Duverne.

The defence would be a priority for many fans this summer with only Jozo Simunovic really having the full confidence of the majority. Exciting then for them, who don't often see the Hoops spend large amounts of money.

Who is he?

Just 19 years old, Duverne broke into the Lens team at the start of the season and became a massive part of their effort to gain promotion to Ligue 1, narrowly missing out on that achievement by a heartbreaking one point. He made 41 appearances for the French club in all competitions.

One of the best defensive prospects in his homeland, switching to a big club with the promise of first team European football is a tempting move for an ambitious young player.

Brendan Rodgers is one of the best coaches around to work with youth, just look at the teenage talent that has performed so excellently for Celtic over the last 12 months.

Duverne fits the profile at the Hoops; young and talented with the potential to grow as a player and an asset.

Jozo Simunovic has shown he has a maturity beyond his years when it comes to defending so there would be no issue in pairing the two and in fact, having pace and energy in the position would actually suit Celtic perfectly.

The reported £4.8m move is a lot of money, but that kind of price tag is perhaps indicative of his talent. The Hoops don't generally commit those kind of fees on players who won't have an impact at the club and if they splash the cash it will only heighten fans' excitement.
