As reported by The Daily Mirror, Manchester United and Manchester City are set to go head-to-head this summer in an effort to sign Benfica goalkeeper Ederson.

What's the story?

Both Manchester clubs could be in need for a goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window. Rumours persist that David De Gea could be set for a move to Real Madrid while City have struggled to find a reliable number one all season.

One man that both Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have in mind is Ederson of Benfica. That's according to The Daily Mirror who say the 23 year old has caught their attention after a fine season in the Portuguese top-flight.

Does he have what it takes to make an impact in the English Premier League?

How good is he?

Ederson has played a vital part in another successful Benfica season. They won their fourth league title in a row last week and their Brazilian goalkeeping prospect has kept an incredible 22 clean sheets in all competitions across the campaign.

He broke into the Benfica first team last season and has made the position his own this term, making 36 appearances, including 7 in the UEFA Champions League.

It's perhaps there that his suitability for Premier League football is best judged and his form in Europen's biggest club competition was stellar, keeping three clean sheets including a man of the match performance against Borussia Dortmund.

At 23 years of age he has a massive future ahead of him and if either Manchester club can get their hands on him they could have something special.
