In Focus: Everton face frustrating end to Giroud pursuit

Everton target Olivier Giroud has decided to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place, according to Le10sport.

What’s the word?

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman has made it clear that he intends to bring more players to Goodison Park this summer.

That is despite the fact that he has already recruited seven new faces, of which include Wayne Rooney.

Everton have spent more than £100m, but they are still believed to be targeting a frontman following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.

Giroud has been linked to the Merseyside outfit for many weeks now, but a French media outlet has suggested that the pursuit could end in disappointment.

Le10sport claims that the 30-year-old is keen to revive his Arsenal career.

Is this a blow for Everton?

Very much so. The Toffees got most of their deals over the line quickly, but it seems that their hunt for a new striker is taking time.

If Everton have put all their focus in landing Giroud, then they’re facing a frustrating outcome if these latest reports are to be believed.

If true, it is a rather odd decision from the Frenchman too, as he is unlikely to get regular game time at the Emirates now that club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette is on the books.

Last season, Giroud scored 12 goals and registered three assists in the Premier League, but he only started 11 of his 29 outings.

At Everton, he would have the opportunity of becoming the main man and helping the club challenge the top six.
