According to Sky Sports, Arsenal are leading the likes of Everton and Southampton in the race to sign £6.8m-rated Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru this summer.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the 19-year-old attacker has become one of the most coveted young players in Europe following an outstanding season for the Belgian outfit, with the Toffees and the Saints said to be among the frontrunners for his signature after he was reported to be in talks with two unnamed Premier League clubs.

However, it now seems as though Arsene Wenger’s men are one of them and they are in pole position to land the Nigerian, who will be allowed to leave for £6.8m.

How good has he been this season?

He has been superb.

Able to play anywhere across the front three, the forward has scored 24 goals and provided a further nine assists across 41 matches in all competitions, including 10 goals in his last 10 games in the Jupiler Pro League play-offs.

Pacey and with a keen eye for goal, he looks set to get his dream move to England this summer – although it could be to north London rather than Goodison Park.

How much of a blow would it be for Everton?

It would probably be quite a big one.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is desperate to bring in some new attacking players this summer with Arouna Kone leaving the club, Enner Valencia returning to West Ham United following a loan spell and continued doubts over the future of Romelu Lukaku.

The Merseyside outfit also love a bargain – as seen when they signed Idrissa Gueye for £7.1m last summer – and Oneykuru certainly looks like he could be one of those.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, it is no surprise that Everton were interested in the young forward considering his goal record this season and asking price, but if Arsenal are to win the race for the 19-year-old the Toffees must dust themselves down and quickly move on to their next target.
