As reported by The Telegraph, Everton face losing out on one of their top transfer targets this summer after Monaco joined the race to sign Youri Tielemans.

What's the story?

The paper reckon that Tielemans is seen as a replacement for Ross Barkley at Goodison Park after the midfielder, rated at £20m by Anderlecht, performed magnificently in this season's UEFA Europa League.

However, The Telegraph say that Monaco are in a position to offer him first team football, which may not be a guarantee at English Premier League level.

That leaves Everton in a bad situation. Can they compete with a team that is taking the UEFA Champions League by storm this season?

How good is he?

The midfielder has been in outrageous form for Anderlecht this season, scoring an incredible 18 goals in 45 appearances. That goalscoring ability from the middle of the park is rare, especially so given he is just 19 years of age.

He made his debut for the Belgian club aged just 16 and has gone on to make over 175 appearances in all competitions. Already winning full international caps for Belgium, it's clear the teenager has a bright future ahead of him.

Impressive performances against Manchester United in a recent Europa League title has further boosted his reputation and perhaps demonstrates he's ready for Premier League football.

If Everton were to land him it would be seen as a bit of a coup but could be the catalyst they need to make a push for a top four finish next season.
