According to the website of Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Everton are ready to launch a €25m (approximately £22.7m) offer for Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic, who is also a target for AC Milan.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Gianluca Di Marzio says that the Toffees are determined to bring the Croatia international to Goodison Park this summer, but they may face a fight to convince him to move back to the Premier League as he has his sights set on joining Milan.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is still keen to further strengthen his side despite bringing in seven new first-team players already this summer, and the Dutchman may still be looking to replace Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian left to join Manchester United, despite adding Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney to his squad.

The former Blackburn Rovers man has certainly been in fine form for the Serie A outfit, and it is no surprise that he is attracting admiring glances from a number of clubs.

How well did Kalinic do last season?

He was excellent.

The 29-year-old scored 20 goals and provided a further four assists in 42 appearances in total for the Serie A side, showing his finishing ability.

Having netted 16 times in all competitions the previous campaign, his record in front of goal is certainly no fluke and he provides a physical and aerial threat up top too.

Would he be a good signing for Everton?

He could well be, yes.

While the Toffees have brought Rooney and Ramirez to the club, Koeman may still be worried about replacing the 25 goals Lukaku scored for the Merseyside outfit last season.

With Arouna Kone having already gone and Oumar Niasse likely to go before the transfer window shuts, Everton aren’t exactly blessed with a number of centre-forward options and signing Kalinic, who has a Premier League experience, could be a good move.

However, the potential price tag for a player that will celebrate his 30th birthday in January may be a little off-putting, while he hardly set the English top flight alight during his spell with Blackburn when he scored seven goals in 44 Premier League appearances – albeit, this was more than six years ago.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, if AC Milan fail to complete a deal for Kalinic then Everton look to be in pole position to bring him to the Premier League, and the striker would certainly be one to watch this season.
