As reported by TransferMarketWeb, Everton are interested in signing Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud this summer if they end up cashing in on Romelu Lukaku.

What's the story?

The future of Lukaku at Goodison Park is in doubt, with TransferMarketWeb reporting that the club are still in discussions with Chelsea about a potential switch back to London.

That means Ronald Koeman needs to think about a potential replacement. Lukaku scored a huge amount of goals for the Toffees last season, 26 in total, and that's not easy to replace.

However, Everton do have someone in mind for the task; Arsenal's Olivier Giroud. That's according to the report which also states that the likes of West Ham and Marseilles are in for the Frenchman.

Value at £21.25m by Transfermarkt, he'd likely cost a pretty penny with his contract at the Emirates not expiring until 2019. Is he the right man for the task at that kind of money?

The right fit?

Olivier Giroud has made just 17 starts for Arsene Wenger last season, the veteran manager much preferring playing Alexis Sanchez through the middle and often opting to play just one striker.

However, Giroud still weighed in with a fair contribution, netting 16 times this season for the club despite limited minutes on the pitch.

With a futher 11 goals for his country over the last 12 months, it’s clear that he is an elite striker, potentially at the peak of his game at the age of 30.

That goal threat could be vital at Everton, especially if Lukaku leaves. With a regular game week-to-week we may just see the best of what he has to offer and could be the perfect fit for an ambitious outfit like Everton.
