Manchester United are ready to offer Ander Herrera a bumper new deal following his wonderful campaign for the club, according to the Daily Mail.
Amazingly, Herera is understood to have had doubts about just how exactly he would fit in under Jose Mourinho following the latter’s arrival last summer, though has firmly established himself as one of his most trusted lieutenants.
United aren’t believed to envisage any problems in pushing a deal over the line as they look to extend what has been a successful stay at Old Trafford for him thus far. Though the Red Devils have struggled to restore former glories somewhat, Herrera has won the Community Shield, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup since joining.
While his performance in man-marking Eden Hazard against Chelsea last weekend (as well as scoring in that game) has been noted, the Spaniard has been in wonderful form all season.
Herrera has shown glimpses of the sort of talent that prompted Louis van Gaal to splash out £29m on him in the summer of 2014, though appears to be relishing life under the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’. Deployed as United’s all-action central midfielder, to free Paul Pogba up to roam, the former Athletico Bilbao man has finally made it into the La Roja national team.
As a result, United can’t afford not to keep him.
