As reported by The Daily Mirror, Manchester United fans may still get to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic in action at Old Trafford next season.

What's the story?

Ibrahimovic's contract at the Red Devils ran out at the end of the season and after suffering a debilitating long-term injury did not have that deal renewed.

However, he could still be a United player next season after he makes his recovery with The Daily Mirror reporting that Jose Mourinho could hand him a new contract in January.

The legendary striker is recovering from his injury at United's training ground and the paper report that he has been so impressed with the level of care that he will give the club first option on his contract when he recovers.

Still worth it?

With his advancing years and a long-term injury, it will always be a bit of a risk to bring Ibrahimovic back into the first team fold at Old Trafford. However, you can never count the Swede out and his goals last season are enough reason to believe he could still offer United plenty.

He scored a massive 28 goals by the end of April before his injury, undoubtedly one of the key figures at the club on their way to UEFA Europa League success.

If he recovers well from his injury then he'd be the perfect mid-season boost for Jose Mourinho during a campaign that the club are hoping is being fought in the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League. With Romelu Lukaku arriving this summer, United have a fine first-choice striker but Ibrahimovic would add a depth that would be the envy of most clubs in the division.
