As reported by The Daily Mirror, Manchester United are set to launch a stunning raid on Premier League rivals Arsenal this summer in a move that would infuriate Gunners supporters.

What's the story?

Mesut Ozil is undoubtedly one of the finest attacking midfielders in the division on his day and with his contract up in the summer of 2018, many clubs are likely to be credited with an interest over the next few months.

One such club, say The Mirror, is Manchester United. In a move that would create significant controversy, they say Jose Mourinho is desperate for a reunion with the German midfielder, having previously worked with him at Real Madrid.

An inevitable departure?

With the midfielder entering the last year of his contract at the Emirates, Arsenal can't risk letting a player they signed for significant money to leave on a free in 2018 so if he doesn't sign up soon, perhaps his departure in the summer is inevitable.

There are sections of the Gunners support who wouldn't be too disappointed with that in theory, but that feeling would certainly change if he was to turn up at one of Arsenal's direct rivals.

Ozil is too good a player to allow him to sign for the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal simply can't afford a man who has directly contributed to 20 goals this season enhance the squad of fellow top four contenders.

If they have to lose the German international this summer then they should at least ensure he heads abroad, otherwise they risk a repeat of the Robin van Persie situation and no Gunners fan wants to see that again.
