As reported by The Irish Mirror, Celtic have sent scouts to track the progress of Cork City striker Seanie Maguire as he hits peak form in the League of Ireland.
Former West Ham man Maguire is lighting up Irish football right now, having scored nine goals in eleven matches for Cork City as they rack up the wins at the start of the season. The Rebels have eleven wins from eleven but could be set to lose key man Maguire this summer.
The Irish Mirror reckon that Celtic and English Championship clubs like Preston are in for the red hot striker due to his form and the fact he has a bargain £125,000 release clause in his contract.
The paper say the Hoops had a scout at Turners Cross on Friday night to see the hitman knock in a goal against Bray Wanderers.
His start to the season is no fluke either. He was in lethal form last season too, scoring 29 goals in all competitions including the winning last minute goal in the FAI Cup Final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Celtic already have a couple of excellent strikers already at the club in the form of Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths. The duo have both hit plenty of goals this season both in Europe and in domestic action and offer Brendan Rodgers the fire power required to be so dominant in Scotland.
Beyond those two though there isn’t much depth and the Hoops have found themselves playing without a recognised striker on a few occasions this season. Adding someone like Maguire, who obviously knows how to find the net, would add another option up front and allow Rodgers to potentially develop another gem in the making.
