As reported by Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle United are interested in signing Udinese goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis this summer.

What's the story?

With Rafa Benitez unconvinced with any of his goalkeeper options, it's become a priority for the club to bring in reliable hands between the sticks as they look to compete well in the English Premier League next season.

Rob Eliot is number one but with Tim Krul frozen out and Karl Darlow unimpressive, competition needs to be brought in to push for that place in goal.

Tuttomercatoweb report that one goalkeeper they are tracking is Orestis Karnezis, an experienced Serie A goalkeeper who is also interesting giants Napoli this summer.

Rated at £3.4m by Transfermarkt, he wouldn't break the bank and appears to have the experience required to make an impact at St James' Park.

Who is he?

Karnezis started his career in his native Greece, making 70 appearances for Panathinaikos before moving to La Liga in 2013 to sign for Granada. He failed to become first choice at the Spanish club and eventually found a home at Serie A side Udinese.

He's been first choice at the Italian outfit ever since, making 110 appearances in three seasons.

His form in that time has been good enough to impress the national team, winning 42 caps in total and becoming a regular in the Greece side.

While he's untested in the English Premier League, his experience bodes well for Newcastle should they move for him and he could be an elite option at a decent price, which fits their profile perfectly.
