As reported in an exclusive by The Scottish Sun, Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko is the latest player to be linked with a move away from the club this January.
We’ve already recently discussed potential switches for Craig Gordon, Moussa Dembele and Jozo Simunovic on deadline day but another Celtic star could be on the verge of an exit from the Hoops after surprise interest from the English Premier League.
The Sun reports that Erik Sviatchenko is a target for Leicester City and the interest is urgent enough that talks are required with his agent on deadline day, who has flown to Glasgow to meet with the club.
It must be noted that the Danish defender is said to be happy at the club by the paper so whether Leicester’s reported interest comes to anything remains to be seen.
As noted, a number of Celtic stars are said to be on the radar of English Premier League clubs and that’s to be expected given the form the team are in and notable performances against Man City in the UEFA Champions League.
Sviatchenko has been key to their success this season although has recently dropped out of the team due to the re-emergence of Dedryck Boyata.
Brendan Rodgers’ priority on deadline day will likely be retaining his top talent ahead of another tilt at Champions League qualification in the summer.
If he can keep his best players they have a great chance of not only qualifying for the group stages but also securing a rare domestic treble by the end of May.
Interest in their top stars is unlikely to amuse Hoops supporters on deadline day and given all the reports it could be an anxious wait to see if the club have managed to rebuff the big bucks of the Premier League for the likes of Sviatchenko, Simunovic Gordon and Dembele.
