According to a report in the Daily Mail, Everton are keen on signing Ajax captain Davy Klaassen, as a potential replacement for Ross Barkley, but it will take as much as £21million.

What's the word?

Sources suggest that the 24-year-old attacking midfielder would be keen on a move to England and reent comments made to the press by Klaassen have added fuel to the fire.

Speaking after his final home game of the season for Ajax, Klaassen stated that he "didn't know" if that was his final league game for the club.

So, how good has Klaassen been this season?

Well, with a Eredivisie and Europa League double still on the cards for Ajax this season, its safe to say that Klaassen has impressed. In fact, he has been the clubs' standout player, leading with Kuyt-like energy and contributing 15 goals in all competitions.

During the past 12 months, Klaassen has also established himself as a key part of the Netherlands international setup, as they try and rebuild after a disappointing couple of years.

Would Klaassen be a good fit for Everton?

In short, absolutely. The Dutchman would be a perfect fit in attacking midfield role at Everton, slotting behind Romelu Lukaku. With rumours that Ross Barkley may be moving on this summer, Klaassen would be the perfect replacement.

His low centre of gravity, eye for goal, passing range and technical skill could really help Everton establish themselves in the top six in the Premier League.

Klaassen is still only 24-years-old and has his best years ahead of him. Considering his potential and career longevity, £21 million is a steal in today's market.
