As reported by The Daily Mirror, Everton are interested in signing Burnley’s in-form defender Michael Keane before the end of the January transfer window.
Ronald Koeman continues to look for squad improvements after the signing of Morgan Schneiderlin and Ademola Lookman and may have identified a man who can improve their defence.
The Mirror report Ronald Koeman is a fan of former England youth international Michael Keane but could face significant competition for his signature.
Quoted by the paper, Koeman said:
Keane is one of the players on the list, like some of the defenders in that position. But I think he’s on more lists in different teams.
Given his form this season, it’s understandable there’s a race on for his signature.
Michael Keane has made 23 appearances for Burnley this season and is helping them have a fantastic season so far in the English Premier League.
He’s helped them to eight clean sheets this term and four of those have come in his last five matches. At just 24, the defender has the best years of his career ahead of him and whoever invests in that future will likely get a Premier League calibre defender for years to come.
That’ll be why the likes of Manchester City are interested in his services, according to The Mirror.
He’d likely fit into Everton’s system with ease, Koeman preferring a defensive nature to his side’s football this season. Playing alongside a superior level of player, any move could be the making of the young defender.
