As reported by Spanish outlet OK Diario, Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
Jose Mourinho on the hunt for players to add real quality and depth to his squad at Old Trafford as they prepare to compete in the UEFA Champions League and English Premier League next season. Where better to look than European champions Real Madrid?
OK Diario reckon that Mourinho is a fan of Mateo Kovacic and is lining up a move for the midfielder this summer.
Rated at £21.25m by Transfermarkt, he may cost a significant fee but he does have a pedigree that’s sure to be exciting for United fans should he sign.
What’s more, The Daily Mirror report that none other than Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign the midfielder when he was just 17, a sign that he may be a hero at Old Trafford.
Kovacic is a classy midfielder who would bring real technical ability to the middle of the park at Old Trafford should he sign. With a 92% pass completion rate in La Liga last season in 27 appearances, it’s clear that if he joins he’d bring real consistency to the table too.
With the ability to bring the ball into the final third too, he could be the kind of playmaking talent that United have been crying out for. In a midfield that was accused of being one-dimensional last term, he could provide the kind of spark that takes United’s came to another level.
With the versatility to play deep but also in attacking positions and on the left flank, he also ticks the squad depth box too.
All the evidence points to him to being an excellent addition to Jose Mourinho’s team if they can get the deal done.
