As reported by The Daily Record, Manchester United have dropped their interest in Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, instead focusing on the likes of Monaco's Benjamin Mendy.

What's the story?

The Manchester Evening News recently reported that Tierney was keen on a move to Old Trafford with the likes of United and Tottenham Hotspur interested in his services this summer.

However, a fresh report from The Daily Record suggests Jose Mourinho has decided not to make a move for the Scotland international despite his scouts being impressed with his progress under Brendan Rodgers.

That can only be a positive for Celtic and their fans, most of whom would probably want to see the young left-back stay for years and years to come.

How good is he?

Tierney has been a revelation for the Hoops since making his debut at the age of just 17. He's improved as a player significantly too, emerging as one of Brendan Rodgers' most consistent players this season, which is no mean feat with the likes of Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong all putting in incredible performances across the campaign.

Winning Scotland caps, trophies and excelling in the UEFA Champions League, it's hard to believe he is still at the very beginning of what could be a long and successful career at the highest level.

There may come a time when he has to move on to continue his development but right now he is in the best place possible to learn his trade and win significant silverware with his boyhood heroes.

Teams like Manchester United not following up their interest with  big money bids can only be a good thing for all parties right now. It could prove too tempting for Celtic turn down the huge amounts of cash that Premier League sides can offer these days.
