According to reports on ESPN FC, Leeds United are set for a huge boost ahead of their Championship opener against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday as they look set to sign Manchester United left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on loan.

What’s the word, then?

Well, ESPN FC say that sources close to Leeds have told them that the Yorkshire outfit are on the verge of completing a loan deal to bring the 20-year-old to Elland Road for the upcoming Championship campaign.

Whites boss Thomas Christiansen has been looking for a new left-back following the departure of Charlie Taylor to Burnley earlier in the summer and ESPN FC say that the Spaniard is closing to getting his top target.

The report adds that Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is happy for the youngster to get more experience and regular playing time elsewhere after he already spent the first-half of last season with Leeds’ Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

How did he do at Wolves?

He struggled to make an impression to be honest but it was certainly a difficult situation at Molineux for the youngster as Walter Zenga was replaced by new boss Paul Lambert in November.

The 20-year-old made six Championship appearances in total but while he often found himself on the substitutes’ bench, sometimes he didn’t even make the matchday squad.

Would he be a good signing for Leeds?

He certainly could be, yes.

Despite his failure to make an impact with Wolves, Borthwick-Jackson is highly-rated at Manchester United and he made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils during the 2015/16 campaign.

He will certainly solve their current left-back issue and he will benefit from having a consistent run in the side.

Even in his six league outings for Wolves, the 20-year-old made a big impression from a defensive point of view making 42 clearances and 14 interceptions, while he also showed his ability to get forward by successfully completing five of the seven take-ons he attempted.

On the flip side, there will still be concerns from supporters at why he failed to make the grade with their Championship rivals.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, Leeds needed a new left-back and they will be delighted if they can get a loan deal across the line for a highly-rated youngster before their Championship opener against Bolton Wanderers this weekend.
