As reported by The Sunday Mirror, Manchester United are set to join Arsenal in the race for the signature of one of Europe's hottest properties this January.

What's the story?

After missing out on the signature of reported target Ivan Perisic in the summer transfer window, United are still presumably looking for a player who can give them a cutting edge on the left hand flank of their attack.

It seems that far from settling with what he has, Jose Mourinho is set to make a major move for Monaco's Thomas Lemar.

That's according to The Mirror, who report that the Red Devils will be in for the French international in January, joining Arsenal who failed to get a £92m deal done for the 21-year-old on deadline day.

While it would take a club record fee to bring him to the club, the paper say that the player's advisors have been made aware of Mourinho's interest.

Worth splashing the cash?

Lemar has become one of the most sought after stars in European football over the past year, much like his former team-mates Tiemoue Bakayoko and Kylian Mbappe. Lemar's form for Monaco last term was just as special as that duo and that's why clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United are looking to bring him to the English Premier League.

The French cap scored 14 goals and created 17 assists last term in all competitions, helping his club to the Ligue 1 title and the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League.

With the likelihood he will improve even more as he matures and gains more experience, it's clear he has a contribution that could be trans-formative to the Man United attack and that makes it worth their time and money to pursue him in January.
