As reported by The Sun, Newcastle United are interested in signing Arsenal forward Lucas Perez this summer.
If Newcastle are to finish comfortably free from relegation in next season’s English Premier League, Rafa Benitez will have to make significant improvements to his squad that was promoted from the Championship.
While they’ve already signed Christian Atsu, Javi Manquillo, Jacob Murphy and Florian Lejeune this summer, Benitez is apparently interested in signing a man who could transform their attack.
The Sun say the Spaniard is interested in Arsenal forward Lucas Perez, a player of great quality who is struggling to break his way into the Arsenal first-team.
Reported to have signed for the Gunners for £17m last summer, the forward hasn’t convinced Arsene Wenger he is a player to be relied upon, making just two Premier League starts in his time at the club.
However he has shown glimpses of quality in his fleeting appearances and did end up scoring five goals in all competitions despite making just six starts.
It’s his season before last at Deportivo La Coruna that perhaps points to his true potential. In La Liga that season he scored an impressive 17 goals in league action.
If Rafa Benitez can tap into that kind of top-flight firepower next season then it could go a long way to ensuring that Newcastle fans have a very enjoyable campaign indeed.
