In Focus: Lukaku could be the next great Man United striker

As reported by The Daily Express, Jose Mourinho has dramatically changed his summer transfer plans, now targeting a mega-money move for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.

What’s the story?

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured and unlikely to feature for Manchester United next season, the race is on for Jose Mourinho to replace his contribution to the Red Devils last season with a quality striker.

The Express report that Mourinho had initially wanted Antoine Griezmann to play off Ibrahimovic but now a move for the Frenchman is off the cards due to the Swede’s injury.

Instead, say the paper, Mourinho is weighing up a move for Everton’s striking sensation Romelu Lukaku, rated at an incredible £100m.

The report also suggests Man United may even be willing to part with their record goalscorer Wayne Rooney plus cash to land their man.

The next big thing?

Romelu Lukaku has already cemented himself as one of the most lethal attackers in the entire English Premier League. Last season he scored a fantastic 26 goals in all competitions, driving Everton forward to a  very decent seventh placed finish.

While letting the likes of Rooney go may be tough, securing the services of Lukaku could usher in a new era of success at the club. A new legend could be born at Old Trafford if he replicates his goal-scoring form from Goodison Park.

Whichever club Lukaku moves to, they’ll be lucky to have him.
