According to AS Monaco director Deco, Juventus are interested in signing midfielder Fabinho this summer, which is harming Manchester United’s fight for the 23-year-old.
Deco, who had a glittering playing career, now works as a director for Monaco, and the former Portugal international has claimed that he ‘knows that Juventus want Fabinho’.
Deco’s quotes have been carried by Italian publication Tuttosport, with the former midfielder adding that Fabinho “clearly” likes Juventus due to their status as “a big club”.
Man United were strongly linked with a move for Fabinho last summer, although Monaco managed to hold off the interest in a player that enjoyed a glittering 2016-17 campaign.
Recent reports have claimed that the 20-time English champions are leading the race to sign the 23-year-old, but Deco’s comments suggest that it is Juventus that are in the driving seat.
Despite being considered as a defensive player, Fabinho scored nine times for Monaco during their title-winning 2016-17 Ligue 1 campaign.
The Brazilian, who is capable of operating at right-back or in the middle of midfield, has become known for his set-piece ability, while his athleticism has also drawn admiring glances.
It has been claimed that Man United boss Jose Mourinho sees Fabinho as the perfect player to operate alongside Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in the middle of midfield, and it is understood that the player is ready to move on this summer after a brilliant 2016-17 season.
Fabinho, who is rated at £21.2m by transfermarkt.co.uk, also scored once and provided three assists in Monaco’s run to the semi-finals of the Champions League, which proved his ability to operate at the highest level of club football.
Man United will seemingly face a battle from Serie A in order to land Fabinho, but Mourinho will be desperate to land a player that could develop into a cult hero at Old Trafford.
