According to reports in The Mirror, Manchester United will demand Real Madrid Toni Kroos in any deal for David De Gea after the Spanish giants angered the Red Devils by reigniting their interest in the goalkeeper.

What’s the word, then?

Well, De Gea has long been linked with a move to Real and the La Liga holders have reignited their interest in the 26-year-old just weeks after publicly stating that they no longer wanted to sign the stopper, according to The Mirror.

The Red Devils have responded by saying that Zinedine Zidane’s men will only get the Spain international if they get Kroos as part of the deal, with The Mirror stating that United manager Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the 27-year-old.

However, the report adds that Real don’t want to lose the Germany international, just like United aren’t keen on losing De Gea, but that insiders believe it is only a matter of time before the keeper makes the move to the Bernabeu.

They would want £60m for him, unless Kroos is included as part of the deal.

How did Kroos do last season?

The Germany international was once again a key figure for Real as they won the La Liga title and lifted the Champions League trophy for the second successive campaign, and he ended the season having scored four goals and provided a further 17 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.

The 27-year-old is able to play in a defensive midfield role but is perhaps most effective in a central midfield position, where he is able to showcase his creative skills.

In 29 La Liga appearances, Kroos showed how comfortable he is in possession with a remarkable 92% passing accuracy and having successfully completed 29 of the 34 take-ons he attempted, while he also created 80 chances for his teammates.

He also showed his defensive capabilities by making 33 interceptions.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, there is no doubt that Kroos would be a great addition for any team in the world.

Mourinho may well be looking for a new central midfielder this summer with Michael Carrick getting no younger and doubts over whether Marouane Fellaini is good enough to feature for the first team on a regular basis.

However, a deal for Kroos looks unlikely and appears to be more of a revenge tactic by United with Real unlikely to let him go even if it mean they got De Gea.
