In Focus: McGinn could be a future midfield star at Celtic

As reported in an exclusive by The Express, Celtic are interested in signing Hibernian midfielder John McGinn this summer to beat interest from England.

What’s the story?

McGinn has been in superb form for Hibs this season, helping them win promotion from the Scottish Championship as division winners. He’s a key figure in Neil Lennon’s side and would likely be a stand out in the Premiership next season too.

The Express reckon Brendan Rodgers is a big admirer of the 22 year old and, facing competition from the likes of Sunderland, is keen to get a deal done that would bring him to Celtic Park.

McGinn has two years left on his contract and the paper say it would take around £1.5m to lure him from Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Is he the next Scottish midfield star to wow Celtic supporters?

Room for him?

Celtic already have an abundance of midfield talent available and it’s likely only the best prospects will be brought into the Hoops to compete for places.

Brendan Rodgers has utilised Scottish players to great effect in the middle of the park with Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong and Callum McGregor all top performers across the season.

McGinn fits that mould and already has three caps for Scotland himself with former Hoops boss Gordon Strachan clearly a big admirer.

At just 22 years of age, there’s a high upward ceiling for the former St Mirren man and if Rodgers can nurture his talent in the same way he was done with McGregor and Armstrong then the reported move could well be a success if it comes off.
