In Focus: Meunier would be classy addition to Man United’s right flank

As reported by The Express, Manchester United are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier this January.

What’s the story?

With the mid-season transfer window rapidly approaching, England’s richest clubs will be looking for talent able to come in and provide a boost to their silverware chasing first teams. Manchester United, given their resources and ambitions, will likely be amongst the busiest.

One man Jose Mourinho is said to want at Old Trafford is Thomas Meunier.

That’s according to The Express, who say the Belgian international has been tracked by Mourinho since last year.

The paper say the club are ready to make a £30m move for the right-sided player, who would be willing to ditch PSG to find the first team football that would ensure he heads to the World Cup with his country.

Good enough?

Moving to PSG from Club Brugge in 2016, Meunier has made 43 appearances for the French giants, but has found himself behind Dani Alves in the pecking order this term.

He’s a right-back who loves to attack. Since the start of the season he’s scored an impressive seven goals for club and country, providing the kind of threat that would go down a treat at Old Trafford. Possessing strong dribbling and passing ability, his benefit to United may be in an offensive rather than defensive sense.

With some United fans calling for Mourinho’s side to show more flair and attacking prowess, signing a player like Meunier could usher in a new style of play at Old Trafford. He certainly has the pedigree and experience that suggests he would be a success.
