As reported by The Daily Mail, Burnley defender Michael Keane is hoping that a big move to Everton materialises this week, despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

What's the story?

The Toffees have already made a massive defensive transfer this summer with the acquisition of Jordan Pickford from Sunderland and now they could have the chance to land a promising centre-back to play in front of him.

The Daily Mail reckon Tottenham Hotspur were showing interest in defender Michael Keane but have moved onto other targets since the Burnley stopper is seeking regular first team football and has his heart set on a move to Merseyside.

The paper say Keane is hoping a £25m move to Everton comes together over the next week.

The right fit for Everton?

If Ronald Koeman's side are to break into the top four over the next few seasons then they need elite young players that can grow into their roles at Goodison Park and improve with time as a team and as a unit.

At 24 years of age, Keane has a big future ahead of him and after a stellar season at Burnley in which he played 35 of their 38 Premier League games and became a big part of the England squad, appears ready to make the next step in his career.

Ashley Williams, Ramiro Funes Mori and Phil Jagielka shared the centre-back positions for Everton last season, whilst youngster Matthew Pennington was also drafted into action.

Funes Mori struggled with injuries and Williams and Jagielka aren't getting any younger so it's clear fresh blood is needed at the back at Goodison, despite them having the seventh-best defensive record in the league last season.

A move for Keane certainly appears to make a lot of sense for the Toffees this summer.
