As reported by The Telegraph, Chelsea are planning a stunning raid on Premier League rivals Arsenal and Everton this summer in an effort to assemble one of the best forward lines in the world.
With Diego Costa’s future at the club still in doubt and with little depth beyond him, Chelsea badly need to recruit some big firepower this summer if they’re to compete on all fronts next season.
Antonio Conte has big plans in mind, plans that would almost ensure they challenge for the title against next season.
The Telegraph reckon that they’re in for Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku, two strikers that have taken the division by storm this season.
That means interest in Alvaro Morata has cooled with Conte preferring a duo who have scored dozens of goals between them this season. The deals could cost them a combined total of over £100m in transfer fees, according to the report.
Sanchez and Lukaku have scored an incredible 44 goals between this season, splitting the total with 22 each in all competitions. Both men are player of the year contenders and both are often the driving force for victories at their clubs.
Adding that kind of goal threat to Chelsea would almost certainly take them to another level and give them the depth to be able to compete both in the English Premier League and in the UEFA Champions League.
Given Sanchez’s versatility to also shine on the left hand side or behind a striker, there’s even room for both of them in the starting XI, which is a scary prospect indeed for the opposition.
While ultimately costing more, focusing on a duo like these two would offer much more than the likes of Alvaro Morata who, while obviously an elite player, is not as red hot right now.
