In Focus: Negredo would be massive for Leeds United’s Championship ambitions

As reported by The Daily Mirror, Leeds United are interested in signing Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo this summer.

What’s the story?

It’s a big summer for Leeds United. After impressing in the Championship last term, they’re looking to build a squad that is capable of building on that and pushing for promotion play-off places.

One man said to be interesting the Elland Road club is Alvaro Negredo of Valencia. The Mirror say they’re rivalling Swansea City for his signature in a deal that could be worth £6.4m.

Is he the kind of signing that could make Leeds contenders next term?

Negredo has been a top-flight player in England and Spain for ten seasons now and despite being the wrong side of 30 still has plenty about him to be a success in the English Championship.

In a physical league, he could be the bulldozing striking presence that has what it takes to bang in the goals. That’s not what his entire game is about though, he’s excellent at bringing his teammates into attacks as a focal point too.

His record and trophy-winning pedigree is the kind that Leeds should be looking to bring into the club if they have top-flight ambitions and although his reported fee is a fair whack of cash, it’s something they should be pursuing.
