In Focus: Newcastle keen on landing Brazilian star this summer

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle are ready to bid for Brazilian star Gabriel Pires this summer.

What’s the Word?

Pires, who is currently on the books at La Liga side Leganes, has impressed in Spain this season, helping his side record some impressive scalps in the top flight.

Reports have suggested that Benitez almost landed the versatile attacker in January and is set to re-kindle his interest this summer. Gabriel is valued at £2.13m by transfermarkt.com.

How good has Pires been this season?

Undoubtedly the best player at Leganes, Pires has been a key part of his teams battle to avoid relegation. While five goals in 32 games doesn’t sound like a fantastic return, the 23-year-old has impressed with his hard-working mentality and ability on the ball.

Having been used in numerous positions, the Brazilian has been an ever present this campaign and has established himself as a firm favourite amongst the Leganes fans.

Is Pires a good fit for Newcastle?

It seems that any Newcastle player who wishes to become a hero on Tyneside needs a healthy mix of passion, desire, effort, with a hint of flair to get the Toon Army off their seats.

This makes Pires a perfect candidate to become a new fan favourite at Newcastle. His bull like stamina and desire to win is comparable to Carlos Tevez, while his Brazilian roots allow for glimpses of classy technique.

If he can project his effort and desire onto the pitch at St. James’ Park and is able handle the weather on Tyneside, Pires could well be one of the best buys of the summer transfer window.
