As reported by France Football, Crystal Palace are interested in bringing Gabriel Obertan back to the Premier League in the closing days of the transfer window.

What's the word?

Crystal Palace badly need improvements if they're to make to Premier League safety come May. Sam Allardyce has already added Jeffrey Schlupp to his squad and is on the verge of adding Patrick van Aanholt but isn't stopping there.

France Football report that the Eagles are one of the clubs tracking former Manchester United and Newcastle man Gabriel Obertan.

The outlet reports that his club Anzhi Makhachkala are in financial difficulties and need to part with their stars, even if it means leaving for free, and that's alerted a number of clubs including Palace.

Worth a contract?

While they may be able to pick up Obertan for cheap, for us there are still question marks about the worth of that to Palace.

Obertan was mostly ineffective at Manchester United and Newcastle. He scored just one goal for the Red Devils and three goals for Newcastle in his seven seasons in England.

That's not the cutting edge that Crystal Palace require in the wide areas. They need someone who can provide that bit of magic in tights games towards the end of the season.

Allardyce and Palace should focus on other targets, someone who can come in and hit the ground running, to give them as big a chance of staying up as possible.
