As reported by The Mirror, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is gunning for a move to Manchester United when his contract at the Emirates expires next summer.

What's the story?

Ozil's contract situation at Arsenal has been a long-running saga and the worst case scenario for the Gunners is that he not only leaves on a free but also goes to one of their immediate rivals at the top end of the English Premier League table.

That could be exactly what's about to happen according The Mirror.

They say the playmaker is looking for a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho, who worked with the German international at Real Madrid.

The paper reckons that Mourinho is ready to encourage the club to make the necessary financial moves to land the 28-year-old, who is looking for wages of £250,000-a-week, but would obviously not require a transfer fee should he move at the end of the season.

How bad would it be for Arsenal?

While Ozil's form may have dropped off a bit in recent months, he's been one of Arsene Wenger's most consistent performers in recent seasons and losing to a league rival would be a bitter blow. A happy and motivated Ozil is a dangerous player indeed and should he be a hit at Old Trafford, it's a situation that could cause Gunners supporters great pain.

The 28-year-old has created 29 assists over the last two seasons in the Premier League, also netting 14 league goals in that time. It's a great attacking contribution that could add massively to the talent already at Old Trafford.

On a reported free transfer, making a move for him is something of a no-brainer and he can only be a benefit to Manchester United.
