In Focus: Perisic still a fantastic option for Manchester United

As reported by The Daily Star, Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic this summer.

What’s the story?

Having signed the likes of Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku already this summer, Jose Mourinho has been busy adding the personnel he feels can make Man United title contenders next season. However, it appears his business is not done yet.

The Daily Star say that the club are making progress on a £48m deal for Perisic, the winger Mourinho wants to transform the Red Devils attack next term.

The paper say talks are continuing between the clubs and also with the player’s agent.

What does he offer?

There’s no doubting that Perisic is an elite left-sided midfielder. Last season he scored 11 goals and created nine assists across the campaign, a creativity and goal threat that would go down a treat at Old Trafford.

Perisic excels at international level too, scoring five goals in his last 13 appearances for Croatia.

At 28 years he may not have long-term upside but he is a player in his prime that would certainly add significant talent and depth to Jose Mourinho’s attack.

United’s lack of depth was exposed last season and Mourinho will want to ensure they can battle both in Europe and domestically much better next term.
