As reported in an exclusive by The Sun, Newcastle United are ready to make the shock transfer of the summer and raid rivals Sunderland for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
After securing promotion to the top-flight Rafa Benitez will likely be doing all sorts of business in the upcoming transfer window in order to ensure the Magpies make significant progress next season.
One man he is keen on is Pickford, according to The Sun, who say that Newcastle are ready to pay up to £75k-per-week to ensure they are the side that lure him away from The Stadium Of Light.
Competition is fierce though with Everton, Man City, Arsenal and West Ham all interested, say the paper.
While it’s true Sunderland have been dismal all season, Pickford has been one of the few players to really impress for the Black Cats. His performances between the sticks have at times bailed David Moyes and his team out and it’s no surprise he is reported to have a number of suitors.
Targeting elite players at relegated clubs is nothing new but if Newcastle pull this off it would be quite the coup and something supporters would love to rub in to rival Sunderland fans.
At just 23 years of age he has a bright career ahead of him and is tipped to become a future England international, receiving his first ever call up earlier in the season.
Signing him would show Newcastle mean business this summer and provide the stability they will need at the back next term.
