In Focus: Sanchez would be a sensation at Everton but it’s an unrealistic prospect

As reported by The Sun, Everton are ready to launch an audacious January bid to sign Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez.

What’s the story?

After years upon years of frugal transfer spending, Everton haven’t been shy in splashing the cash over the last 12 months. After a significant summer outlay backing doomed manager Ronald Koeman, it appears the club aren’t done with the ambitious spending and are ready to launch their most high profile bid yet.

The Sun report that the club are interested in signing Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez this January, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The paper reckon that he’s become a number one target for Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri, despite being recommended other targets by the club’s scouting team.

The report says he wants a big name and is targeting a £30m move for the Chilean international.

Is it likely?

Everton may have ambitions to sign talents like Sanchez but it seems incredibly unlikely it will happen anytime soon. Bringing former hero Wayne Rooney back to the club was one thing, but signing a player like the Arsenal forward in his prime when he has ambitions to play for a UEFA Champions League team seems a step beyond.

There’s no doubt the prolific attacker would be a sensation at Goodison Park, his 74 goals and 45 assists for Arsenal in 153 appearances is proof of that.

However, any potential Toffees pursuit could be distracting. Currently in the relegation zone, their season is at serious risk of verging into disaster territory and they need to get January recruitment right, which will take hard work and a laser focus.
