According to reports in The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton target Josh King, who is rated at around £30m according to The Telegraph, isn’t keen to leave Bournemouth this summer unless he is guaranteed regular first team football next season.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Mirror says the 25-year-old is a transfer target for both clubs following an outstanding season with the Cherries, with Tottenham and Everton leading the race to sign the Norway international.

However, despite the lure of European football with Spurs, King isn’t keen to play second fiddle to Harry Kane next term, according to The Mirror, while he could find himself in a similar situation if he moved to Goodison Park – especially if Romelu Lukaku stays with the Merseyside outfit.

The report adds that King isn’t desperate to leave Bournemouth during this transfer window and will think about his career and playing more than the potentially more lucrative wages that could be on offer.

How well did King do last season?

He was quite brilliant.

The most goals he had scored in a campaign prior to last season was seven, but he smashed that record and showed that he can be a regular goalscorer by finding the net 16 times in 36 Premier League appearances as Eddie Howe’s men secured a top-half finish.

The 25-year-old showed the consistency and finishing ability that had been missing in recent seasons, and his versatility to play anywhere across the frontline certainly make him an attractive proposition for clubs.

Is there a chance he could still join Tottenham?

It’s difficult to say.

There is no doubt that Kane will be the number one striker at Spurs next year and unless he picks up an injury, first team minutes could be few and far between for King, with a role out wide more likely.

What about Everton?

Again, it could depend on the future of Lukaku.

If the striker does go then King would likely be fighting for the striker’s spot with recent addition Sandro Ramirez, and he would certainly have more chance of playing at Goodison Park in that scenario.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, King’s views on playing regularly almost certainly mean that he would be better off staying with Bournemouth and proving himself for another season.

However, sometimes players have to take the opportunities for moves when they come their way –such is the unpredictability of the game.
