Spanish newspaper Marca claim that Inter Milan are preparing a £13.5m bid for Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela, reports talkSPORT.

What's the word?

The Argentine has had a difficult spell at the North London club due to injury.

Hip problems blighted his 2016-17 campaign, resulting in him missing seven months of the season.

Lamela has not featured for Spurs since October and there is no word yet on whether he will be fit when the Premier League fixtures begin in August.

Despite his injury woes, Inter are willing to take him on and are planning to offer £13.5m, which is £2.5m under Tottenham's valuation, according to Marca.

Should Spurs cut their losses?

The club spent a club-record £30m on signing Lamela from Roma in 2013, but he struggled to live up to his price tag.

The Argentine had impressive spells in the team, but he was not consistent enough to hold down a regular spot in the first XI.

His latest injury problems could be the nail in the coffin, and Tottenham are highly unlikely to recoup the amount that they spent to seal his signature.

Given Lamela's age, there is nothing to say that he will not return to top form, but Tottenham cannot afford to wait as they try to increase their rise in English football.
