According to reports in the Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to step up their efforts to sign £30m-rated Bournemouth forward Josh King as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his attacking options.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Daily Telegraph says that the Cherries could look to recoup some money having signed Chelsea defender Nathan Ake and Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe in deals that could cost the south coast outfit in excess of £50m, while they also signed Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic for £10m earlier in the summer.

Bournemouth are likely to value the impressive King at around £30m in the current market according to the Daily Telegraph, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs would be willing to pay that fee.

However, Pochettino needs someone that can play all across the frontline following the news that Erik Lamela and Son Heung-Min could miss the start of next season, according to the Daily Mirror, as they recover from surgery on hip and arm injuries respectively.

How good was King last season?

He was brilliant and helped Bournemouth to a ninth-place finish.

The 25-year-old scored 16 goals and provided a further two assists in 36 Premier League appearances and it is form that would have caught the attentions of a number of the bigger clubs in the division.

Would he be a good signing for Tottenham?

While Spurs supporters may not feel that King is an addition that a Premier League title contender would make, you do get the feeling that the Norway international could make an impact for the north London outfit.

The versatile 25-year-old showed just how effective and what a good finisher he is last season, and he would be a useful addition to the squad, considering he would likely be an impact substitute rather than a starter when everyone is fit.

Will they pay £30m?

It seems unlikely but Tottenham did pay £30m for Moussa Sissoko last summer, so you never know.

However, it is more than likely that a compromise would be found in any negotiations between the two clubs.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, King can certainly make a difference for Tottenham next season – especially in the Premier League if other first team stars need to be rested following their Champions League exertions – but they must pay less than £30m for him.
