According to reports in the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker has held talks over his future with manager Mauricio Pochettino as he continues to be linked with a move away from White Hart Lane.

What’s the word, then?

Well, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Bayern Munich all reportedly eyeing up the 26-year-old, Walker was keen to find out the club’s plans for the future before making a decision on his own.

The right-back only signed a new £70,000-per-week deal in September, but he is gaining admiring glances from Spurs’ Premier League rivals and some of the biggest clubs in Europe after another solid season for the north London outfit in which they look set to once again compete for the top flight title until the end of the campaign.

How big a loss would he be if he left?

He would be a huge loss.

As well as his defensive abilities – which have improved in recent seasons especially – Walker offers a huge threat from an attacking point of view as well and has picked up five assists in 29 Premier League appearances this term.

Would Spurs be tempted by a large offer?

Possibly, yes.

Pochettino knows that his transfer budget will be boosted if he sells before he buys and he could find that he receives some big offers for Walker this summer.

Those could be too good to turn down, especially as the Argentine knows that he has the reliable and impressive Kieran Trippier as back-up, with the former Burnley man named as the man of the match in the recent 4-0 thrashing of Watford at White Hart Lane.

What’s the verdict, then?

A lot will depend on what Pochettino has told Walker but if Tottenham can keep hold of the nucleus of players they have right now, there is no doubt that they can be Premier League title contenders again next season, while they will also hope to have a good crack at the Champions League should they qualify.

Whether that is enough to convince Walker to reject the interest shown in him by some of the biggest clubs in the world remains to be seen.
