In Focus: Tottenham target Seri would be a typically brilliant Spurs signing

According to reports in The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur face competition from a number of top European clubs if they want to sign Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri this summer.

What’s the word, then?

Well, scouts from the north London outfit are said to have watched the 25-year-old midfielder on a number of occasions this season and they have been impressed with what they have seen.

Spurs could choose to make a move for the £20m-rated Ligue 1 star during the summer, but they may have to compete against the likes of arch-rivals Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona to win the race for the Ivory Coast international.

How good has he been this season?

He has been excellent.

Nice have been unlikely title contenders for the whole campaign and they lie six points behind leaders Monaco with just three fixtures remaining.

One of the reasons they have been so impressive is because of the performances of Seri in the middle of the park.

The 25-year-old has scored six goals in 31 Ligue 1 appearances and has provided a further nine assists as he leads the way for chances created in the side.

Where would he fit in at Spurs?

While he can play as a defensive midfielder and is in a similar mould to N’Golo Kante standing at 5’6” tall, the Ivorian is more effective in a more advanced role as shown by his goal and assists return.

With Spurs currently deploying a 3-4-3 formation, Seri would probably play alongside either Victor Wanyama or Mousa Dembele in the centre of the park if Mauricio Pochettino wanted to get the best out of the 25-year-old. H

His outstanding performances this term certainly mean that he could bring a new dimension to their play.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, if Seri is to leave Nice this summer he will want guaranteed first team football, and he will know that he is more likely to get it at White Hart Lane rather than with the likes of Barcelona and PSG.
