As reported by The Daily Record, Celtic are interested in FC Utrecht’s highly rated right-back Giovanni Troupee, one of the brightest prospects in Eredivisie.
The Hoops are always on the hunt for the brightest young players in Europe and have cast their eye on Dutch football in their search for defenders ready to compete in the UEFA Champions League.
19 year old Giovanni Troupee is attracting attention from Brendan Rodgers, according to the Record, who say that the young defender is rated at £1.75m.
However they face competition from the likes of Bournemouth in the English Premier League and this season’s Champions League foes Borussia Monchengladbach, say the paper.
With Dutch youth international caps under his belt and plenty of appearances for his club, despite his tender age, it’s clear that the future could be bright for the young Utrecht star. He certainly appears to be ambitious, speaking just last month about being flattered by interest from clubs further afield.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he said:
Of course it is flattering to hear your name linked with big clubs abroad. But no one has told me anything about it and I am just concentrating on improving my game here at Utrecht and continuing to learn.
Celtic aren’t lacking for options on the right hand side of defensive with Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa both performing well this season but bringing in a young player to this area would provide serious competition and perhaps see a changing of the guard, with Lustig turning 30 in December.
